Today more data is filtering in that, on top of housing being a bad deal, older homes are even worse. Advances in energy efficiency means that homes built since 2000 only use 2 percent more energy than older homes, despite being 30 percent larger.
Buying an older home means you’ll be paying more for electricity and maintenance, along with typical expenses like insurance and taxes.
Even today the housing industry thinks their problem is one of style over substance. Instead of looking for ways to make housing a better deal for homeowners, the real estate industry is focused on the messaging.
